Nguni cattle, a hardy breed indigenous to South Africa, inspired this line of furniture seating with the shape of their horns. Designed as both chairs and bar stools, the seats were originally created for a Botswana game lodge whose name means horns in Tswana. They have since been featured in a number of African restaurants and lodges, including Steenberg Vineyards Bistro, which is great example of using bar and restaurant designs to get ideas for your home.
The chairs and stools are made from native African hardwoods. Available in both Kiaat and Zebra wood frames, the handcrafted seats are woven from cords available in 8 different color patterns: blue, canvas, cuckoo, gazelle, granite and hazel.
Approximate Furniture Dimensions:
- Nguni Chair - 530 wide x 530 deep x 900 tall w/ 600 mm seat height.
- Nguni Bar Stool - 530 wide x 530 deep x 1085 tall w/ 800 mm seat height.
While the chair backs certainly capture the spirit of the Nguni cattle horns, the taller bar stool frames have a sort of nautical feel reminiscent of an elevated tower seat like many lifeguards sit in at the beach to watch swimmers in the water. Whether these stools make you envision a rustic cowboy feel inspired by the cattle or a more nautical aesthetic may depend on the surrounding furniture and decor of your home bar to complement and bring out that particular design quality.
